The name Saraswati VEENA itself suggests that it is a celestial
instrument played by the goddess of learning (Saraswati), vidya & gyan
(wisdom).
Veena occupies most honourable place among musical instruments in India. The
origin of the veena can be traced back to Indian mythology.
It is definitely one of the most ancient Indian string instruments and
has been mentioned in scriptures since vedic age.
Veena has been designed on Human anatomy and produces sound equivalent
to human voice.
Veena has 4 Strings representing the 4 Vedas (Rig, Yajur, Sama &
Atharvana) and has 24 frets to produce
“Naadham” (SOUND)
These 24 frets represent human spinal cord with 24 vertebrae.
These 4 strings with the placement of frets like spinal Cord produces
sound modulations equaling human vocal singing.
Sita subramanian has learnt Veena in the traditional “GURU-SISHYA
PARAMPARA” under the able guidance of renowned teacher Smt. VEENAI
R. JAYALAKSHMI & also has learnt Carnatic vocal music from her mother Mrs. Meena
Mahadevan, for over 8 years.
